Rooftop Solar System powers plug-in Toyota RAV4-EV |

Plug-in Cars: Self-funding for solar power and clean air General Motors ("GM") has admitted that the future of transportation is electric traction power. The all-electric Toyota RAV4-EV travels 3 to 5 miles on each kilo-Watt-hour ("kWh") of electric power, 105 to 175 miles on the energy equivalent of a gallon of gasoline. The Toyota RAV4-EV was last sold in Nov., 2002, but all 328 in the hands of the public are still running like new. Just as the GM EV1 were just as good as new when GM crushed them. Most of the Toyota RAV4-EV owners have installed solar rooftop Photo-Voltaic ("PV") electric systems. Each kWh, when used to displace gasoline purchases, is worth about $1. The solar PV system produces excess electric in the daytime on-peak critical period, helping avoid blackouts. The credits from this production are used to pay for slow, overnight off-peak charging of plug-in EVs. Citizens want to install solar and finance it by A new Zero Emission Vehicle (Z.E.V.) mandate is needed, to force auto makers to produce plug-in Electric Vehicles. The California Air Resources Board has the power, and the duty, to do so. Recent studies show that children raised closer to freeways show significantly more permanent lung damage than children living a mile away. Both suffer shriveled lungs from gasoline-powered auto emissions and from the refineries needed to make the gasoline. There is NO conceivable benefit that would make permanent lung damage acceptable. So long as cars and refineries emit pollutants that create anhydrous nitric and sulfuric acid, this cost will be borne by our kids. There is no place in L.A., or other major cities, that is not close to freeways, refineries, or densely-packed cars on residential streets. The only solution to auto emissions is cars that don't emit, Z.E.V. Powered by solar rooftop electric systems on every rooftop. We can keep the freedom of the car and also keep our money out of the hands of the oil companies. The only thing we need are more cars like the 2002 Toyota Nickel Metal Hydride plug-in EVs pictured above. Toyota knows how to make these EVs. CARB must force auto makers to release them on the free market, available for sale to volunteer Citizens who want to live EV-PV, the essentially oil-free lifestyle.
